I have been on the look of good quality yarns. Not actually cheap, but preferably different. something i don’t usually see off the bookshelves of National Bookstores.

So if you are me, what do you do? First person (or persona) to ask is [of course], our dear ol Google friend. And a lot of searches would actually point you to ebay. But since, we are in the Philippines, let me tour you to a lot of yarn destinations me and fellow crocheters do love to go to. You have a wide range to choose from, organic to synthetic, from solid colors to variegated ones, and your only limit is your budget.

The Hangar Market [Baguio City]

Hangar Market Baguio City - Up the Stairs

You have probably read about baguio yarns over and over again on this blog and on my previous blog here. Well, of course. I am a big fan of yarns from baguio. But it has been a long time since I last visited that place, and i could only hope for dear friends to buy me yarns from there. It is still not the same when you are the one looking for yarns. How much good my friends are for buying me yarns from this market, they can’t still find me the kind of yarns i used to buy from there. I had cottons of different yarn weights, now when i ask my friends to buy me yarns from there, I always receive the same kind of acrylic yarn. It’s not that I am not grateful, i just wish i could be back there, doing the yarn hoarding

Bodega ng Sinulid [Rosario Pasig]

Yup! It’s just a street lined up with Garage-like stalls filled with, what else? threads and yarns. A lot of Metro crocheters have already been visiting this road over the years.

Yarns from Rosario, Pasig

Here, let me share you what iheartcrochet thinks about Rosario, Pasig:

I just love this store. Every time I go there, I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by how much yarn there is in that store. I want to buy a lot but I know I couldn’t carry too much alone and I couldn’t use up all of that.

Beadahh.multiply.com [Online]

Yes, believe it or not, there are already people who recognizes our yearning for yarns. A good friend of mine owns this multiply shop called beadahh.multiply.com who emerge from selling beading materials to yarn addiction provider.

Look at some of the yarns she offers at relatively cheap price!

Boucle Yarns at beadahh.multiply.com

Yarns at beadahh.multiply.com

The multiply shop owner also sells Monaco mercerized colors at a very low price. I think if the colors are not available in her shop you could go and ask her for them. Maybe you could even provide the color number

Ebay.com [Online]

I always browse ebay hoping for some bargains . It’s really my vice to go online looking for cheap yans to buy. If you have friends abroad that could do the buying for you and you have the patience for them to go back here in the country, that’d be better. I usually do that.

Craftandme.com [Online]

I buy in bulk from this online store. Something that could last me for half a year or so. Their yarns are best for clothes, mind you. I love their soft cotton yarns

Craft and Me

The yarns are not costly but the shipping for them is. So if you are going to buy from them, i suggest you buy everything you can and indulge yourself for a year or so. I could buy as much as five kilograms of soft cotton yarns from this shop and i could easily get a good ROI from the clothes i crocheted using Craftandme’s soft cotton yarns.

So there they are. Enjoy and be happy.

After a lot of trouble finding possible suppliers then finding a friend who helped me with the yarn shipment, I got my first wool yarn supply in the country.

These yarns are 90% sheep wool and comes in a variety of colors. I ordered a single stranded yarn that can be used for 2.0mm hook. SInce i know that wool clothing are a bit warm, I just considered buying not-so bulky yarn weight. If in case someone wants bulkier ones, I could just wind two (or three) strands into a ball

Wool Yarns

The yarns can be felted. (YE!) and dyed. So in the high hopes that people will be interested trying crocheting and knitting wool , we got our supplies in the store. The stocks will be updated as soon as next week once I get the package at my doorsteps. Right now, just too busy writing codes for my development project and just too excited waiting for a baby to be delivered .

To peach, aja! aja!

I will sell them at 100g per ball. I just have to wait for my ball winder to arrive

The ‘ber’ months are coming. And it’s already cold outside. The weather’s sometimes a bit tricky.I find it bothersome to wear long sleeves or sweater because, even though it’s raining, the sun would still show up sometime in the afternoon or if I am inside crowded places like MRT or passenger jeepneys, a cardigan may still be too hot to wear. But once i stepped out I could feel the cold breeze around my shoulders. It’d be nice to make another bolero. Just the right size to cover the bare shoulders. Something I could easily take off once the sun shows up or before entering a crowded train.

On my newly arrived yarns there’s a very cool shade of turquoise. The shade will remind you of the coming season.

ICT Variegated Turquoise

The yarn is 100% mercerized cotton. It’s a locally produced yarn from Indonesia. One ball is 100 gram. Just enough for a small-sized bolero. Hook-size to use would be 2.00 to 2.10 mm. The threads kinda thick. Thicker than the locally available monaco thread. If you wishes to buy a similar yarn, this multiply user has this on her for sale list. Or you could buy from craftandme.com

It’s a good thing too, that I have this soft plush yarn from Pasig.

Soft Plush Yarn - Color Blue Green

I don’t actually know what’s the official name of this yarn (as all the yarns i bought there ) But looking at the Berocco’s yarn list, their Soft Plush Yarn comes closest to the one I have.

If these two yarns are actually of the same kind, it’d be 100% Nylon. Hook size to use can be 3.0mm to 4.0 mm. I have a medium size ball (weight is unknown).

Berroco Plush™ 100% Nylon

Funny, coz i never found any use of the soft plush yarn from Pasig. Since it’s too thick to be made into any comfy clothing. Especially here in Philippines, even if it’s cold it’s not practical to crochet anything from this yarn.

Apparently these two yarns are great for each other. The colors are almost homogeneous and the textures are complementary. The plush yarn is soft to touch while (as all mercerized cotton threads are) the ICT is a bit rough and hard.

I am gonna use the cotton yarn for the body of the bolero and the plush yarn for the borders. Just to add accent.

Incidentally these two yarns are freebie for purchasing 2 kilograms of yarns from each store. Wow.. Great deal
