Felted Baby Slippers with Textured Sole

Filipinos are really fond of wearing slippers whenever and whatever the occasion may be. The trend of flip flops and slip-ons crazed major malls nationwide. Why? We love the comfort these footwear provides. No additional fuzz. Simple yet rocks.

I was playing with my fiance’s niece when I saw one of her slippers lying around. I picked it up and got inspired to make a pair of slippers. It’s what I do usually. Be inspired then crochet.

This pair of slippers is made with felted wool, for additional touch of softness and comfort. Plus ankle-wrap straps to secure the slippers on for extra flirty style. I also made the bottom sole textured for rough – look.

Materials

Yarn A: Sportweight soft-cotton yarn – Brown (Alternative local mercerized cotton – preferably dark color)

Yarn B: Sportweight 90% Wool – Red (Alternative, faux animal hair yarn)

Needle

Hook Size

Size 2.1mm

Gauge/Tension

6ch ~ 1in

Finished Size

5.5 in x 2.5in

Abbreviations

ch = chain

sc = Single Crochet

hdc = Half Double Crochet

tc = Treble Crochet

Soak Top Sole (if Yarn B is untreated wool) in hot water (preferably water that just got boiled) with dishwashing liquid for 5-10 minutes (as desired – or longer). Remove the cloth from hot water. Be careful with being burned. Gently hand wash the cloth until felting occurs. Soak again to hot water. Repeat procedure til desired texture is achieve. Wash the soap in cold water. Let the sole dry.

It has been a long time since i made my first free pattern on sale, now I am giving it for free. Thanks for visiting my site

Description of the project:

The idea behind the project is to create a simple shrug out of crocheted square, slip stitched
at both ends to form the sleeves. This shrug is made in rows and does not need sewing. It’s
great for crocheters who want easy, lightweight project that could be done in three hours or
less.
The shrug is made from soft cotton of bulk weight using 4.0mm crochet hook (US Size).

The pattern consists of the usual combination stitches:

4dc open shell with 1 ch

3dc closed shell

crossed Fpdc (Front Post Double crochet) with 1 ch

3 dc cluster.

These stitches will be described more in the section: Special Stitches.

Finished Project:

This is the finished product. It’s great for tube – blouse, spaghetti- strapped blouse, a tube
dress.

2 metal bars

1.6 mm crochet hook

needle (big)

I bought the metal links, bars, and wires at Quiapo. The metal bars costs around 20Php/pack (contains 10), the links and wires are around the same price.

The buttons I used came from stashed buttons given to me by a local wholesale store of threads and other tailoring needs. (I’ll post a blog later)

Choose Buttons with this kind of back:

The purpose of this is the button will serve as the lock of the band.

The yarn’s frm Rosario Pasig. It was given to me free by the manong. Because I bought two kilos of yarns from him.

All in all, the materials came cheap. It took me less than 30 minutes to create this accessory.

Project Description

This is the first crocheted clothing I made from baguio yarns. Stitch-wise, this clothing is easy to do. But if you are not as patient, this would be too tiring, too repetitive and boring. I barely managed to finish it, not because I wanted to, but felt compelled to. It’s because if i left this unfinished, it would forever be. And so, to make full use of the newly purchased yarns by michael, I finished this clothing and felt proud.

You could increase the length of the blouse by adding another row. This project is made from the sleeves down. It is convenient to wear even without a tube underneath since the stitches are kinda thick, you wouldn’t feel so anxious.

Read the inspiration/background for this in related posts: Part I & Part II

About the Stitches:

As i said, the stitches are pretty simple, I used ch, dc, tc, dc shell and tc shell.

Gauge:

5ch ~ 1 in

1dc ~ 1/2 in.

Materials:

3.0mm crochet hook

6strands(ply) Soft Cotton Yarn from Baguio (I think each strand is comparable in thickness to any sewing thread)

12 strands(ply) Soft Cotton Yarn from Baguio color black. Same thickness as the 6-ply yellow yarn

1ply White Popcorn Yarn from Baguio

Stitch Diagram

Stitch Diagram for Pyschedelic Shell

Instructions:

Take out your tape measure, measure the width of your upper body and your shoulder height.

The length of your foundation chain should be:

Length of foundation chain = Body width +4 x shoulder height.

Note that in this project, 5 ch is approximately 1in.

(Note that this blouse is made from shoulders down.)

Using yellow and black yarn, together:

Crochet chain with length calculated from above. Slip st to first row to make a circle.

1st row: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *(ch 5, skip 5 ch sp dc on next 3 st)*

Repeat from * until there are only 7 ch remaining. ch 5, skip 5 ch sp. dc on next 2ch sp. Slip st on 3rd ch of the row.

2nd row – 4th row: slip st on 3rd chain of previous row. * Create a 6dc 3ch open shell on the 5 ch sp.

Skip the next 3 stitches. * Repeat *

On the fifth row, you are going to make spaces for your arms. These will serve as the sleeves of your blouse.

How does this work?

My shoulder height is around 7.5in. So the space i ought to allot for a sleeve is around 15in.

That would probably take 75 ch. and one open shell needs about 9 ch. So in a sleeve there should be 8 shells.

Just divide your crocheted article now into half. Count the number of shells you have. In my project i have 35 shells. I skipped 8 shells for a sleeve in both sides, leaving me with 10 shells for the front part and 9 for the back part.

For the 5th row, I crochet 6 dc 3ch open shells 10 times. skipped 8 shells, then crocheted 6dc 3ch open shells on the next ’9 shells’ from previous row. Skip 8 shells and slip stitch on 3rd ch.

At this point you should have 2 open arm holes.

row 6: crochet 6dc 3ch open shell around.

Fasten off yarn, attach the popcorn yarn.

Using the popcorn yarn:

Description of the Project

A cool blend of turquiose and white hues that will remind you of the coming holiday season. This practical project uses up a simple combination of double-crochet and chain stitches adorned with fluffy plush yarn. I used just a 100g ball of Indonesian Cotton Thread. You could actually substitute any locally available crochet thread and just adjust the gauge. Luckily for us, the soft plush turquiose yarn used for the borders of the clothing is available locally. I got this one from Bodega sa Rosario, Pasig.

The bolero is made up of 5 parts, crocheted individually. 2 sleeves, 2 front parts and the back part. I sewed them together using left over crochet thread. Then I added the border. The border’s just plain dc. I used automatic locks to close the front part. And attached two medium sized white textured buttons in front to accentuate.

Adding the borders.

The borders are just dc’s crocheted along the border of the garment. Attached the plush yarn anywhere along the border. Crochet 2dc’s on each 2ch sp/3ch sp/dc space of the border, adding more dc’s on the corners.

Adding Buttons

Add two buttons at the lower left side of the bolero. The buttons are just to accentuate. The trick used was I added automatic locks as fastener for this bolero. For cleaner look.

Introduction:

I got this pattern from A. W. B. Crochet Book, I downloaded from Antique Pattern Library. The book is not easy to read. It requires basic knowledge of crochet sticthes and uses a lot of abbreviations. It took a while before I was able to comprehend one crochet instruction, and this is it.

I am specially attracted to butterfly motifs, pendants or appliques that’s why i chose to follow this particular pattern. The crochet instructions that follow is a direct excerpt from the book:

The applique is made from separate parts sewed together, something much akin to irish crochet. Of course since the book is an irish crochet book.

Instructions:

BODY -

Ch 8, miss 1, d into each of the next 6 st, 3 d into end st or topl work d along other side of ch and 3 d at other end also. Work all the way round again with d, working 3 d into the end st, and when you reach the top again, ch 9, fasten into the last d, forming a ring for the head. Over the ring, work 5d; * ch 20, fasten back into 10th st, sl st back to head; * 1 d over ring, repeat from * to *; 5 d over ring, 1 d into same top st on body; work d down to lower end. Ch 11 for second section of body, work d all around three times and a half, always working 3 d into each end, and fasten off at top of section, under upper section.

WINGS -

for the upper wings, work the picot braid the length needed. For the half og th eupper wings and for the lower wings, work pieces of plain braid. (For directions see post about braid)

To form the points in the lower wings, work 1d, 1 ch and 1d into the same st, and in the last row, work 1d picot and 1d into each point; between the points, miss 1 spaces and 2 or 3 st in the longer spaces, to obtain the in-curve.

RINGS -

14d over a ring of 8ch, and 18d over a ring of 10ch. Make four of the larger rings and two of the smaller.

After all the separate pieces are made, baste them face down on the pattern as shown. Sew securely together and put in a filling of twisted bars and Bruges knot.
