HK Granny Square Attempt #1

… still working on it. still learning how to actually do it.

I didn’t push through the face details yet but will definitely post pictures once I am finally done with the HK Granny Square (because I must admit, this really doesn’t look like one!).

I am (seriously) finding it a little hard understanding a very vague pattern given to me. *ugh!

I probably need to work on the face details.

Freebies!!!

This is not something related to any of my hobby (beading/crocheting)… I wanted to post it because it somewhat made me happy. :)

Just this Thursday on my way to the hospital for check-up, we came across a newly opened 7/11. Since we had to stop for gas refill, I had the chance to check out the newly opened convenient store and was luckily assisted by a hostess.

She gave me a free Slurpee and tons of yummy Hershey’s ‘n More rice crispies! :D yum!

I still believe that no matter how small or big it is, freebies never fail to brighten someone’s day!

Local Yarn: Monaco

I am about to make a shawl for amah and  a blankie for baby. But since I know that the Red Heart Bulk-Acrylic yarn is not appropriate due to it being super fibrous,  I’ve decided to buy additional Monaco mercerized-cotton yarns.

I am not sure if they’ll work out just fine… but I will go ahead and try.

Monaco mercerized-cotton yarn… Avail a discount if you get a dozen. ;)

So Many Ideas…

I must admit… instead of actually picking up my Diagonal Baby Blankie project, I got SIDE-TRACKED-AGAIN into doing crocheted bookmarks and what seems to be granny squares (but it says on the pattern ‘afghan‘)!

Due to the overwhelming patterns (plus ideas to add up to that) that I am getting from friends, I tried working on several things – all at the same time! Can you believe that?

Well anyway, I actually tried working on bookmarks because I would like to make a good one for shobe. As for the afghan,  I made it using my local canon mercerized cotton yarns just to see if somehow it would actually turn out okay for baby as blanket but later on realized I have chosen the wrong color so I am going to turn it into a scarf for myself instead… *ugh*

I promise to upload photos of them soon…

Right now I just need to dive into my urge to try making me one cellphone purse for my C905 mobile so I can go ahead and pick up my Diagonal Baby Blankie project again… so I really hafta be done with that purse else I will never be able to work back on the Diagonal Blankie. ;)

Gotta go!

Talk to you soon…

Wool Yarn Shipment… Pushing Through!

yarnsGreat News!!!

Last night, I was able to talk to Lorie online and she informed me that we’re going to push through with the yarns we’re getting from China…!!! That’s great news since I have also been looking forward to that 2kgs of wool yarn I ordered from her.

The only challenge we have now is since we are going to have those yarns shipped to the Philippines together with our upcoming cargo from China which is scheduled to be shipped here on the 15th of October… And money transfer from Philippines to China takes 3-days, we would have to find a way to have the amount settled within China first — just so we can have the yarns delivered from the supplier’s warehouse to the one taking care of the shipment of our cargo there before our cargo leaves for the Philippines.

We only have limited amount of time… But I am definitely going to make sure we get those 10kgs of wool yarns arrive! ;) *crosses-fingers*

ME — uberly excited! The yarns better be really good… lol.

Infectious Disease

HOOKINOSIS

by Ima Nutt

This disease affects women of all ages, races and religions. However, it has now started to afflict men as well. The most distressing part of having one of your loved ones catch Hookinosis, is that there is no know cure. Recently a group of men have formed the S.P.C.W. (Society of Prevention of Crocheting by Women) and have started a fund drive in hopes that, with more research, a cure may be found within the next few years.
Hookinosis has just recently come to the attention of the medical profession, since it has always been considered a hobby, but after some extensive testing, it has been found that women who crochet go through actual withdrawal symptoms, when their yarn supply has been cut off.
Some of these symptoms are:
1. Irritability.
. Nervousness.
3. Extreme craving for yarn and crochet hooks.
4. Inability to concentrate.

Since I am listing some of the withdrawal symptoms, I may as well make a list of symptoms to watch for if you feel your loved one may be catching Hookinosis:
1. Yarn and crochet hooks lying all over.
2. Sleeps with yarn under her pillow.
3. Crochets matching booties for your cat and dog.
4. Gets extremely agitated if her yarn supply runs low.

If you feel your loved one fits any of these symptoms listed above, try to get her to join Yarnaholics Anonymous. Even tho there is no cure as yet, the organization may be able to help your family cope better with this affliction. Those of you who have not yet been stricken with this disease, please keep your family safe. Crocheting is very contagious, and the best way to prevent it’s ravages is to keep your females completely away from yarn, thread and crochet hooks or anyone who already has Hookinosis.

Wool Yarn Shipment. Cancelled.

Wool Yarns

Wool Yarns

I was supposed to order 2kg of Wool yarn from my online friend/mentor Lorie, which I am very much excited about…

The yarns were supposed to come from abroad and was arranged to be shipped to the Philippines on the 15th. However, something unfortunate happened to her just this morning which led to the cancellation of the shipment.

I feel sad that the shipment has been called off  because we’ve both been looking forward to it… But what makes me sad the most is the problem my friend Lorie is facing. Yarns can wait… We can always try some other time to try to order yarns again. For now we can just try harder to look for yarn shops here in the Philippines and get from there…

And to my friend Lorie — all the best…

Baby Beanie

As previously mentioned from one of my posts, I am busy working on a Diagonal Baby Blankie

BUT.LAST.NIGHT.I.WAS.SIDE.TRACKED.

Instead of picking up the Diagonal Baby Blanket project, I tried working on a baby beanie… Good thing I was able to finish the project on the same evening I started it, actually swore to so I can start working back on the Diagonal Baby Blanket I am originally working on.

Anyway, here’s the Baby Beanie I did last night…

I might need to do a little more adjustment as the head size according to some might be a little small (though I think the head circumference was really meant to be that way because the pattern I used is for newborn babies) but we’ll see… I will just make another one instead and keep this so I could check once my baby has arrived. ;)

My Choice of Practice Yarn…

Originally posted: 22-September

Why it’s my choice of practice yarn?

Initiallly I don’t know what this yarn is called. I just remember using it way back elementary during Home Economics Class.

When I came across it once again in NBS, I still don’t know what it’s called but the tag says Yarn & Knitting Acrylic Yarn. So maybe that’s really what it is called.

It’s my personal choice of practice yarn specifically because I think it is the best yarn to use for practicing.  Other than being COST EFFECTIVE… It helps me reserve my more expensive yarns for real finished objects.

Although it’s a little tough looping the yarn over your v-hole (or probably it’s also because the initial one that I got is not the nice type of it – Familia), it is still way better for it allows you to see your stitches more clearly (bigger). Enables you to easily tell if you’re doing the right thing.

I remember this was what we used way back elementary when crochet was first introduced to me. I’ve really been looking for this since I noticed that most of the tutorial videos I am watching to help me learn the basic of crochet uses the same type of  yarn — it’s just that I had no idea where I can actually get one at first…

I guess what makes it more tougher for me finding it at first is the fact that I don’t know what this yarn is called nor the type of yarn it is.

Good thing I thought of passing by the nearest NSB outlet to try my luck. There I found it…! One down thing about getting it from NBS is that it’s a little more pricey than getting it from a local yarn store and you really have no choice when it comes to the brand.

So I guess I would need to keep looking…

Nevertheless,  it is still an addition to my crochet family ;)
