There’s a lot of patterns of mini motifs already available that would help you create fashionable items using simple design. Take for example the sunflower motif I have taken from the book Mini Motif Crochet Pattern:

The sunflower motif (highlighted on the image above) is used to create a small trendy pair of earrings:

Next is using ch to create a band of fabric. The multiple rows of ch with alternating sc on a given interval will create a ‘vertical stripe effect’.
